Kogi State Government Commissions Land Restoration and Waste Management Equipment

Assures Citizens of Government’s commitment to food security.
Following its desire to ensure food security for all Kogites, the Government of Kogi State has commissioned various land restoration and Waste Management Equipment.
The commissioning which took place at the Buhari Civic Center, Lokoja, had top Government functionaries, Traditional Rulers and Community members in attendance.
The Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, was represented by the Hon. Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Matters, Engr. Joseph Oluwasegun, who doubles as the Chairman, Kogi ACReSAL State Steering Committee.
In his keynote address, the Governor stated that the commissioning is a testament that his administration has a “sense of purpose and commitment to the people of Kogi State, which supersedes mere words”.
The Commissioner, stated also that the State Government is poised to ensure that every Kogite does not go hungry, while at the same time creating jobs for the teeming youths of the State; according to him, this would lead to sustainable economic growth.
He added that the commissioning of 1 Swamp Buggy, 1 low bed, 23 tractors, 400 plastic waste bins, 20 tipping tricycles for waste disposal, and 30 galvanized waste bins will translate to reduced Environmental hazards, ensuring a cleaner and healthier State, whilst also opening the riverine communities for large scale farming and fishing.
These riverine communities have hitherto been ravaged by water hyacinth plants, making farming and fishing difficult.
Earlier, in her welcome remarks, the Project Coordinator, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto – OON, said the Commissioning marks another milestone in the history of the Project; adding that the Equipment being showcased was through the collaborative effort of the Government, ACReSAL and the World Bank, which aims to address land degradation and climate change issues such as flooding in the State.
The Project Coordinator added that under the Community Revolving Fund (CRF) loan scheme initiative of ACReSAL, 90 Communities have benefitted, empowering their families in the process.
Additionally, she indicated that a total of 150 farmers are currently involved in Dry season farming, while two Green House facilities have been established by the Project; these facilities have since commenced production of nutritious vegetables.
Goodwill messages came from the Commissioners of Agriculture and Water Resources who also double as Co – Chairs of the State Steering Committee, as well as the representative of the Maigari of Lokoja and the Chairman, Lokoja Local Government Council.
Highlights of the event was the formal commissioning of the equipment to the delight of all.
