The RAP/PAPs’ Compensation train arrived Olubo-Ójo Community in Ankpa, Kogi State on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. The Community witnessed a milestone event, as Governor Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo presented cheques to Project Affected Persons (PAPs) in the Community; these are people that would be involuntarily affected during gully intervention works in the area.
As a way of demonstrating their appreciation and eagerness, Community members had filled the venue of the event hours before the arrival of His Excellency’s representative, demonstrating their excitement and trust in the Government’s efforts to address their long-standing environmental challenges occasioned by Gully Erosion.
Governor Ododo reiterated his administration’s commitment to resolving environmental challenges in the State, including the Olubo-Ójo erosion corridor, which has caused significant hardship, property loss, and displacement.
Gov Ododo, who was represented by the Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Hon. Joseph Oluwasegun, reiterated the commitment of the Administration to ensuring that the Environment is conducive for human habitation.
On her part, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto, OON, Project Coordinator, Kogi ACReSAL, who was represented by the Project Accountant emphasized that Civil Works will only commence after the compensation of displaced/affected persons is complete. She advised beneficiaries to use the funds solely for the intended purpose, and endeavor to vacate the erosion corridor within the given time to avoid unnecessary mishaps.
Samuel Yahaya, and Jane Musa, while speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude for the relief from their age-long sufferings.
They said the gesture marks a significant step towards addressing the ecological challenges in Olubo-Ójo and restoring hope to the Community, as they were sure of better days ahead…
