The Kogi State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project has organized a one day stakeholder engagement and training for selected participants drawn from MDAs in the Agricultural sector.

Speaking at the event, the lead consultant, Prof Mohammed Jaliya from the Institute of Agricultural Research Services, Zaria, said the Institute, in collaboration with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan was in the State to “hand hold” Kogi ACReSAL in its implementation of Climate Smart Agriculture.

According to Prof. Mohammed Jaliya, the training would be in two phases – first would be the lectures, while the second part would be the demonstration on the field.

The field demonstration would comprise “Mother” demonstration centers in selected LGAs; these centers are expected to be managed by a Technologist, who would supervise, guide and monitor the farmers who are the implementers.

Earlier, in her welcome address, the Project Coordinator, Barr Ladi Ahmed Jatto (OON), who was represented by Samson Benu, the Climate Change/ Environmental Safeguards Officer of the Project, stated that Climate Smart Agriculture is a major aspect of “Component B” of the ACReSAL Project and participants must ensure fruitful deliberations that would lead to a successful implementation.

Crops expected to be planted include Maize, Sorghum, Groundnut and Cowpea.
