COMPONENT A – DRY LAND MANAGEMENT

This Component Supports strategic watershed planning process; addresses desertification and land degradation in the participating States.

A1. Strategic Watershed Management Plan;

this is to identify strategic watershed boundaries, covering the whole northern Nigeria.

A2. Landscape Investment:

this sub-component will support landscape level investments, gully rehabilitation, river bank restoration and irrigation.

A3. Special Ecosystem

it will support investment for better management and conservation of special ecosystem, e.g. desert, oasis, and sand dunes.

COMPONENT “B” – COMMUNITY CLIMATE RESILIENCE

The Project will support activities that improve agro-climatic resilience at community level by promoting locally adapted, sustainable land and water management, through climate smart approaches to agriculture and natural resource management.

B1 – COMMUNITY STRENGTHENING

This sub-component aims at strengthening the capacity of communities for sustainable natural resource management; support will be provided to local project implementation committees; there will also be capacity building, and the establishment of Community Revolving Fund (CRF). This fund will be implemented in a gender inclusive manner to help improve women’s livelihoods, as well as give them a voice in the community.

B2 – COMMUNITY INVESTMENT

This component will support and finance physical investment, landscape restoration in community selected degraded lands, using plant species chosen by the communities; these investments will encourage non timber forestry products, such as fodder, acacia, etc.

  • Also, we shall support farmers at household level to optimize climate smart rain-fed agriculture practice, particularly as it relates to crops. Here, there will be investment in water and soil conservation, improved crop variety, integrated pest management and soil and water testing technology.
  • The Project will support farmer-led irrigation development through awareness campaigns, use of technology, access to markets and value chain, water conservation, etc.

COMPONENT C; INSTITUTIONAL STRENGTHENING AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT

This is to improve enabling institutional and policy formulation for long term national framework.

C1. Institutional and Policy Strengthening…

This sub component aims to improve the enabling institutions and the policy formulation for integrated landscape management; there will be investment in infrastructure, IT, and office connectivity.

 C2-Project Monitoring & Management..

This sub-component will support overall Project Monitoring and Management.
